Board Certified Ophthalmologist

Dr. John S. Reifschneider is the Director of the Reifschneider Eye Center, which was started in November 1993. He is board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and specializes in the surgical and medical treatment of diseases of the eye.

Dr. Reifschneider received his degree to practice medicine from the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City, Mo. He completed his residency in ophthalmology at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, CA.

During his nine years of distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, he served as a flight surgeon, Clinical Instructor of Surgery with the Chicago Medical School and as Head of Ophthalmology at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. Prior to establishing the Reifschneider Eye Center, Dr. Reifschneider was in private practice in Overland Park, KS.

Dr. Reifschneider is on staff at several area hospitals, which include St. John Hospital and Cushing Memorial Hospital, where he has served as medical staff president.

Dr. Reifschneider is a member of numerous local and national medical societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Kansas Medical Society, the Leavenworth Medical Society, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the American Osteopathic Association.

Optometrist

Dr. Heath Holland joined the Reifschneider Eye Center as an optometrist in 1999 with a passion to combine the latest techniques in patient care with exceptional patient service. Dr. Holland has a particular interest in specialty contact lenses. He is currently licensed by the Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and Missouri State Boards of Optometry.

Dr. Holland earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Arkansas in 1991 before graduating summa cum laude with a Doctor of Optometry from the Northeastern State University College Optometry in 1997.

Always staying active in his field, Dr. Holland is a member of the following organizations: American Optometric Association, Arkansas Optometric Association, Kansas Optometric Association, Heart of America Contact Lens Society and the National Public Health Association. He has also been the recipient of the Bernell Award for Clinical Excellence in Optometry.

Dr. Holland and his wife, also an Optometrist, are involved in many civic organizations dedicated to the growth of the community.

Optometrist

Dr. Amanda Strom joined the Reifschneider Eye Center as an optometrist in 2005 with a strong commitment to high standards of patient care and an interest in low vision rehabilitation. Originally a native of Overland Park, Kansas, she recently completed her post doctoral residency training in Ocular Disease and Low Vision Rehabilitation at the Jesse Brown VA Hospital in Chicago, IL and the Hines VA Blind Rehabilitation Center in Hines, IL.

Dr. Strom graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Organismal Biology in 1999. She graduated from the University of Missouri - St. Louis College of Optometry in 2004. Currently licensed in Kansas and Missouri, Dr. Strom has stayed involved in her field through her active participation in numerous organizations such as the American Optometric Association and Kansas Optometric Services to Humanity. She is also a candidate for fellowship in the American Academy of Optometry.

Dr. Strom and her husband were thrilled with the opportunity to return to the Kansas City area and have enjoyed becoming more involved with their local Leavenworth community.
